Putney is a pharmaceutical company specializing in the development of high quality drugs for pets. We focus on developing generics for frequently used drugs where cost is a barrier to prescribing, compliance or use. We offer our prescription drugs for sale to companion animal veterinarians —veterinarians who treat pets.
We are investing in the development, licensing and FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) approval of generics. Putney's generic drugs will support veterinarians' decisions to use the standard of care drug for the pet's condition and enable vets to treat more pets, rather than being limited by pet owners' ability to pay out of pocket for branded veterinary drugs. Generics enable more pet owners to comply with the full, veterinarian-prescribed treatment, especially for chronic and frequently used drugs.
Putney helps veterinarians keep pharmaceutical sales and treatment in the practice.
We hope to introduce our first veterinary approved generic drug by 2009.
Currently we make available for sale only FDA-approved human generic drugs through authorized veterinary distributors and to veterinary practices. These drug products are approved by FDA for use in humans only and are not approved by FDA for use in dogs or other animals. Veterinarians can prescribe human approved drugs for pets, subject to the requirements of the Animal Medicinal Drug Use Clarification Act (AMDUCA).
For the future, Putney is developing specialty products via CVM's New Animal Drug Application (NADA) route, taking the drugs through full clinical trials, in order to obtain approval for drugs that improve palatability, dosing and delivery for pets and increase convenience and compliance.
Putney's current pipeline includes orals, injectables, liquids and semi-solids in the analgesic, anti infective, anesthesia and sedation and dermatological therapeutic categories.
