Putney, Inc. Sponsors Innovative Program for MBA Candidates at Babson College; Program gives students inside experience in pharma sales and marketing
Portland, Maine—March 11, 2009—Putney, Inc., a pharmaceutical company focused on the development of drugs for pets, has partnered with the Babson Consulting Alliance Program (BCAP) to provide students with an opportunity to address real world business challenges. Guided by BCAP advisor and Finance Professor Olaf Thorp, six students will spend a year learning about the veterinary pharmaceutical industry and developing an implementation strategy for a portion of Putney’s business plan.
Putney, an emerging animal health company led by pharmaceutical industry expert Jean Hoffman, develops, launches and markets new specialty products which will dramatically enhance the treatment options for companion animals. “As seasoned entrepreneurs and experts on the global pharmaceutical market, Putney is uniquely positioned to provide our BCAP team with real-world perspective and experience involving complex business issues,” says Thorp.
At the conclusion of the program, students will present their recommendations on a portion of Putney’s sales and marketing strategy to the company’s senior management. “The BCAP program provides value to everyone involved. Students receive an inside view of the business world and in return, alliance companies benefit from the students’ fresh perspective,” says Jean Hoffman, founder and CEO of Putney, Inc. The timing is beneficial as Putney is nearing launch of several veterinary-approved products for pets.
The goal of the BCAP program is to equip Babson College students with entrepreneurial management skills to succeed in a changing global business environment. The program matches first-year MBA candidates with alliance companies from industries in which they have expressed a career interest. Although BCAP teams are guided by a faculty advisor, they work directly with alliance company representatives on their projects.
