Putney Donates Carprofen Caplets to Animal Rescue League of Boston

Date: May 17, 2011

Portland, ME—May 17, 2011—Putney, Inc., a pharmaceutical company focused on the development and sale of affordable, generic prescription medicines for pets, has established a drug donation program with the Animal Rescue League of Boston. As part of its initiative to support animal welfare organizations across the country, Putney will provide the Animal Rescue League of Boston with a free supply of its FDA-approved Carprofen Caplets for all dogs in need of treatment at the facility. Putney’s Carprofen Caplets are the generic version of Pfizer’s Rimadyl® caplets. Carprofen is used to control post-operative pain from certain surgeries in dogs as well as to relieve the pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in dogs.

Dr. Martha Smith-Blackmore, director of veterinary medical services, says that Putney’s donation of Carprofen Caplets allows the Animal Rescue League of Boston to stretch its hospital budget and treat more animals. “Our veterinary staff prides itself on how proactively we treat and prevent pain in our shelter animals,” says Smith-Blackmore.

The donation program underscores Putney’s broader mission to help veterinarians provide reliable, cost-effective treatment that their clients can afford. “Veterinarians should be able to make health care recommendations based on what a pet needs, rather than what a pet owner can afford. Putney’s FDA-approved veterinary generic products, such as our Carprofen Caplets, make it easier for pet owners to comply with their veterinarian’s prescription directions,” says Jean Hoffman, CEO of Putney.
