Date: December 13, 2011
Portland, ME—December 13, 2011—Putney, Inc., a rapidly growing pet pharmaceutical company focused on the development and sale of generic prescription medicines for pets, has hired Ted Smolenski as Vice President of Strategic Portfolio Planning. In his new position, Smolenski will lead Putney’s portfolio process to analyze and recommend drug products for development, license and acquisition.
Jean Hoffman, President and CEO of Putney, says Smolenski’s proven ability to drive revenue with strategic portfolio management gives Putney a competitive advantage in the pet generic marketplace. “Ted has managed every aspect of the generic portfolio process from project identification to product launch. He brings valuable experience, strategic thinking, deep analytical skills and established connections that Putney can leverage to assure optimal product selection and productive partnerships,” says Hoffman.
Smolenski says Putney’s entrepreneurial leadership and innovative atmosphere encourage employee growth and provide employees with a unique opportunity to contribute to the company’s success. “I’m excited to join Putney at the beginning of this period of explosive growth. Putney is well-positioned to execute its strategic plan and expand its line of high quality, FDA-approved pet generics,” says Smolenski. Smolenski comes to Putney from Impax Laboratories where, as senior director of portfolio management and strategy, he developed and executed strategies to help grow its human generic business.
This is the fourth VP position that Putney has added this year, as Hoffman continues to select senior leadership team members to strengthen the Company’s core leadership team. In April, Dr. Anthony Lucas was promoted to vice president of product development to deepen Putney’s pipeline of new products and Patrick Powell joined the company as vice president of sales to drive rapid adoption of new products as they are launched. In June, Putney hired David Doll as senior vice president of business development to advance new product and partnership opportunities. “We will continue to build the Putney team in order to drive our success in overcoming barriers to entry to develop, obtain FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine approval and launch generic products for pets,” says Hoffman.
