Portland, ME—January 25, 2012—Putney, Inc., a rapidly growing pet pharmaceutical company focused on the development and sale of generic prescription medicines for pets, has hired Dr. Simon McGurk, PhD as Director of Product Development. Dr. McGurk brings over thirteen years of experience in human pharmaceutical product development from his career at Elan Drug Technologies, Inc., where he successfully led global initiatives focused on the development and approval of new chemical entities (NCE’s), life cycle management and generic product opportunities. In his new role at Putney, Dr. McGurk will drive the scientific aspects of product development, working closely with external partners to ensure scientific rigor, product quality, and manufacturing reliability for new products.

Putney’s Vice President of Product Development, Dr. Anthony Lucas, BVMS, PhD, says Dr. McGurk’s strong academic and industrial track record underscore his scientific expertise and innovative thinking. “Dr. McGurk brings specific scientific talents that will improve the technical aspects of our drug applications, with the goal of achieving faster FDA approvals. With Dr. McGurk driving external partnerships, Putney can accelerate the development of our new products,” says Dr. Lucas.

As Elan’s Director of Product Development, Dr. McGurk optimized both oral and sterile drug therapies for numerous indications including cancer, diabetes and pain management. He also worked directly with global suppliers to implement effective chemistry and manufacturing control (CMC) strategies. “Putney’s entrepreneurial atmosphere is invigorating. I’m eager to apply my broad background to facilitate FDA-approvals of new products and bring to market Putney’s pipeline of generic veterinary products,” says Dr. McGurk.
